The Senior Officer – Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) plays a key role in planning, managing, and supporting field teams to implement mental health and psychosocial support services. This includes overseeing daily activities, building staff capacity, ensuring proper case management, and maintaining coordination with partners.
Supervise MHPSS field staff: case managers, social workers, therapists, and psychiatrists
Support recruitment and onboarding of new MHPSS staff
Prepare and monitor work schedules and field plans
Manage logistics (transportation, field visits, planning, etc.)
Hold weekly team meetings to track progress and resolve challenges
Collect daily updates via reports and data sheets
Represent IMC in inter-agency coordination meetings
Monitor and support PHCCs and partner centers regularly
Ensure all medication protocols (storage, tracking, availability) are followed
Lead area-level needs assessments for new initiatives
Support program development aligned with IMC’s MHPSS strategy
Ensure all activities meet project goals and timelines
Use tools to measure success and progress against indicators
Maintain regular communication with supervisors on key decisions
Help design and use monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools
Track field activities and training outputs effectively
Identify training needs of MHPSS staff
Help develop and implement training plans
Organize, schedule, and track staff trainings
Document training attendance, pre/post-tests, and evaluation reports
Act as the lead focal person for mental health activities in your area
Maintain updated client and case records
Visit supported centers weekly and monitor service delivery
Ensure all data is collected consistently (daily/weekly/monthly)
Conduct file audits and submit monthly case management reports
Provide technical support to teams delivering MHPSS services
Document all meetings and submit detailed weekly/monthly reports
Share data with MEAL team and MHPSS Program Coordinator
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Education | Bachelor’s in mental health field (Master’s or Public Health preferred) |
| Experience | Minimum 4 years in MHPSS or mental health projects, preferably in NGOs |
| Technical Knowledge | Familiar with IASC MHPSS guidelines; experience with case management |
| Skills | Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills |
| Languages | Fluent in English and relevant local language (Pashto preferred) |
| Other | Comfortable with field work, able to manage fast-paced environments, computer-literate (MS Office, databases) |
